Summer is one of the best times of the year, especially here in Canada. The unfortunate thing about summer is that it flies by so fast. Before we know it we are back to wearing fall coats and lacing up boots to go outdoors. Summer can also be one of the cheapest times for entertainment because so much of what you do can be done outdoors – yes, completely free of charge in some cases!
Here is a list of the top 5 things you need to do this summer if you are on a tight budget!
TRAVEL TO THE BEACH
Nothing says summer like some sand beneath your feet and the water near. You may not live near a tropical beach but I am sure there are some lakes in your local area, even if it is a short drive away. Pack up a beach bag with some towels, fresh fruit, and cold water bottles and head to the beach to meet up with friends. Something I like to do is bring a small bluetooth speaker so we can listen to music and relax under the summer sun.
THRIFT SHOPPING
For some reason it seems like everyone I know is much more productive during the warmer months. That also correlates into people cleaning out closets and getting organized – AKA thrift stores are filled with good finds. I personally love walking to local thrift stores and checking out the latest brought in items. You can find some super awesome pieces for excellent prices.
FARMER’S MARKETS
There is something about local Farmer’s Markets that makes me so happy. The fresh fruits and veggies, home baked goods, and crafted items made with care are things you just cannot go without in the summer. Most towns and cities will have a local Farmer’s Market that happens in the summer and the prices will be reasonable. You also get to chit chat with local farmers which makes for great Saturday morning conversations. Not to mention, you support local – that is a win!
CAMPING
Camping is one of the cheapest getaways you can do during the summer months! Grab a tent, a cooler, and some supplies to make s’mores and you are set! If you are feeling real adventurous you could set up the back of an SUV for sleeping or sleep right under the star (just be mindful of the animals in your location – so this might be best suited for the backyard hehe.) During the day you can go on a hike, check out some bike trails around the area , or spend time by the waterfront. This is the ultimate summer activity!
BACKYARD BBQ PARTY
Have your friends over for a backyard BBQ and enjoy the warm weather while engaging in fun conversation. There are so many great yard games you could play as well that make for a great experience. If you are into potlucks this really keeps costs down and you will get to enjoy a lot of yummy foods!
GO ON A HIKE WITH FRIENDS
Summer is the perfect time to get exercising outside! One super fun and enjoyable way to do this is by going on a hike with some friends. You could keep it easy or try something more challenging. I would just highly recommend going without others so you are not alone for safety reasons, plus being with others just makes everything better! Make sure you have a full water bottle and some comfy shoes and go enjoy the adventure!
These are just some of my budget-friendly summer ideas! What are your plans for the summer?
Stay kind.
